Deadpool 2’s upcoming PG-13 release finally has a title, and it is Once Upon a Deadpool.
The re-release of 2018’s superhero comedy will be a limited engagement affair beginning Dec. 12 that runs until Christmas Eve. It’s for those who were too young to see the film in its original R-rated state, though it won’t be a complete re-release of the film itself. There will also be new footage added to the film via a framing device made by star Ryan Reynolds and writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.
Once Upon a Deadpool is also something of a charity. “We’ll be giving $1 to every ticket sold to Fuck Cancer,” said Reynolds, though it will cleverly be renamed to “Fudge Cancer” to keep up with the PG-13 motif.
Deadpool 2 released in May earlier this year and has become the fifth highest-grossing film of the year with $734 million worldwide. The film is expected to be followed by an X-Force film that will feature Josh Brolin’s Cable and Zazie Beetz’s Domino. Once Upon a Deadpool is the third version of the film to release this year; the film’s physical release featured an extended edition that played at San Diego Comic-Con earlier this year.
